An architect by training, founder of the celebrated TED Conference and the author of more than 85 books on a wide variety of subjects, Richard Saul Wurman's singular passion in life is making information understandable. An architecture graduate with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Wurman's nearly half-century of achievements includes the publication of his best-selling book Information Anxiety and his award winning ACCESS Travel Guides. He has received several grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, is a Fellow of the World Economic Forum (Davos, Switzerland) and has received numerous awards and honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Chrysler Design Award in 1996. In 1997 & 1999, Mr. Wurman was named one of the 100 elite of the technology industry by Upside Magazine, and he continues to be a regular consultant to major corporations in matters relating to the design and understanding of information. Recently, he created a new publishing company called TOP. Which publishes books and related media on health and well-being. He is serving as the CEO. He is married to novelist and lyricist Gloria Nagy. He has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He lives in Newport, Rhode Island with Max (their dog).
His most recent publications include Understanding USA, Information Anxiety2, Diagnostic Tests for Men, Diagnostic Tests for Women, Heart Disease & Cardiovascular Health and Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning and his latest Understanding Children and The Newport Guide. He is currently working on a new book project entitled Understanding Healthcare (September 2003).
