Born in Ibaraki Prefecture. Completed Master's course at Japan Women's University, Graduate School of Architecture. Worked for Toyo Ito Architect & Associates. 1987: Established Kazuyo Sejima & Associates. 1995: Established SANAA with architect Ryue Nishizawa. Currently serving as professor at Keio University. Among Sejima's recent accomplishments in Japan: N-Museum (Wakayama), O-Museum (Nagano), ISSEY MIYAKE BY NAOKI TAKIZAWA (all in collaboration with Ryue Nishizawa), Gifu Kitagata Apartment, Small House and hhstyle.com. Her current projects include Stadstheater, Almere (Netherlands); 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa (Japan); Center for Glass, The Toledo Museum of Art (USA); Extension of the Institut Valencia d'Art Modern (Spain); Design School Zollverein, Essen (Germany) (all in collaboration with Ryue Nishizawa) and House in a Plum Grove (Japan). |
