Born in Tokyo 1931. He graduated from the University of Tokyo Department of Education in 1955. He has worked in all fields of graphic design. including providing the art direction for the Osaka International Expo. Okinawa Ocean Expo and the Tsukuba Science Expo. His work strives to open a new realm of communication through the modes of expression that technology provides. Awards that he has received include the JAAC Awards, the Mainichi Industrial Design Award, the Kodansha Cultural Publishing Prize, the Minister of Education Prize for the Arts, a Purple Ribbon Medal, the Masaru Katsumi Award, Memorial Prize of Hiromu Hara, as well as numerous gold prizes from international organizations and events such as Brno Book, the Warsaw, Lahti, and Mexico Poster Biennials, and the New York ADC. He is an emeritus professor of Musashino Art University, a JAGDA director, and member of the Tokyo and New York Art Directors Clubs, and AGI. Collections of his worwk are found in the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Plastic Art, and the Poster Museum of Wilanow in Warsaw. He is an author of The World's Graphic Designs 6, Modern Design Dictionary (supervising editor), An Outline of Modern Graphic Design (CG edition), Muscle Works as Engine and others. |
